It is the oldest Russian and Soviet magazine focusing on popular science and geography, history, and world culture, published since 1861. The cover features a drawing from the book History of the Civil War in the USSR. The issue includes literary script about the struggle of the Spanish people with illustrations by Fedotov; an excerpt from Louis Adamic's book Dynamite; the letter from Spain by Jef Last, a Dutch poet, writer, translator, and cosmopolitan; a story by Alexander Belyaev, a Soviet Russian writer of science fiction with illustrations by N. Kochergin; trying to revive the heart by Alexey Kulyabko, Russian and Soviet physiologist, Doctor of Medicine, State Councilor, Professor; a story about the life of the Trekhgornaya manufactory, the oldest textile plant in Moscow with illustrations by V Svechnikov; and others.
