A Soviet magazine Art in the Masses, issue number 7-8, November-December, 1929. Dedicated to presenting the work of the Russian people, supported by the Association of Revolutionary Artists. A Constructivist design on the front cover featuring the stylised silhouettes of workers. Inside are articles entitled ‘Us, the West and the Artist’s Inheritance’ and ‘A new Stage in Development Art’. There is also a long feature on ‘Criticism and Self-Criticism’. List of some artwork inside: photograph of a bust of Stalin by V A Sergeev; a painting ‘Partizans of Siberia’ by Chashikov; a painting by P P Sokolov-Skala ‘Taman Trek’; ‘Armed Workers’ a painting by S M Karpov; an etching by V A Favorskii ‘October’; a painting ‘The Head’ by A Deren, full page feature To Proletarian Art with an illustration by V Lebedev. Poor condition, damaged spine, frayed front and back covers. Stains on front cover and on first page. A tear on the back cover, stains i right hand corner and stamp mark. Pen marking on front cover. 65 pages.
