Alexander Tairoff had been at the forefront of avant-garde theatre in Moscow before and during the 1914 war. In this book, he explains his role in recent Moscow theatre history and expresses his support for the theories of Gordon Craig and other theatre reformers. Cover design by El Lissitzky, Soviet artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist and architect. He was an important figure of the Russian avant-garde, helping develop suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, and designing numerous exhibition displays and propaganda works for the Soviet Union. His work greatly influenced the Bauhaus and constructivist movements, and he experimented with production techniques and stylistic devices that would go on to dominate the 20th-century graphic design. The book is illustrated by artists such as A Vesnin, A Ekster, P Kuznetsov. Acceptable condition. Rubbings, tears along the spine and margins, dust staining. Pencil markings on the inside of the front cover and on the front page. Published by Gustav Kiepenheuer Verlag, Potsdam, 1927.
