This book is a part of a series representing a complete collection of literary works by Lev Tolstoy. Cover design by El Lissitzky, Russian artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist and architect. He was an important figure of the Russian avant-garde, helping develop suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, and designing numerous exhibition displays and propaganda works for the Soviet Union. His work greatly influenced the Bauhaus and constructivist movements, he experimented with production techniques and stylistic devices that would go on to dominate the 20th-century graphic design. Part number 20 includes stories entitled "Karma", "Zhivoi Trup", "Eto Ti?". Very poor condition of the cover. Loss of material and tears on the spine and the edges, creases, rubbings, staining. The cover is detached from the binding. Missing material on top of the front cover. Pen markings on the back cover. Rusty staples. Pages are in acceptable condition. Rubbings and dust staining on the pages throughout the book. Published by Gosizdat, 1928.
