This book is a part of a series representing a complete collection of literary works by Lev Tolstoy. Cover design by El Lissitzky, Russian artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist and architect. He was an important figure of the Russian avant-garde, helping develop suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, and designing numerous exhibition displays and propaganda works for the Soviet Union. His work greatly influenced the Bauhaus and constructivist movements, he experimented with production techniques and stylistic devices that would go on to dominate the 20th-century graphic design. Part number 23 includes the novel "Hadji-Murat". Poor condition. Front and back covers are detached from the binding. Rubbings, creases and staining. Tears on the edges. Loss of material on the spine. Rubbings and dust staining on the pages throughout the book. Published by Gosizdat, 1928.
