Original vintage Soviet magazine Life of Art Zhizn Iskusstva #2 January 1929. Life of Art was a theatre, literature, film, and art magazine. It was published weekly in Leningrad from 1923-1929, succeeding the newspaper of the same title. The magazine was issued by the Regional Department for Political Education and is replete with in-depth coverage of current movements and productions, mostly in Leningrad, with profiles of prominent actors and directors. The cover features photographs from the plays To the 5th anniversary of the Petrushka Theater at the Leningrad Theater of Young Spectators. The issue includes articles about competition for the libretto of the Soviet ballet; exhibition of Boris Kustodiev, a Russian and Soviet painter and stage designer; dialogue with Vsevolod  Meyerhold, a Russian and Soviet theatre director, actor and theatrical producer; Leningrad Conservatory; Shostakovich's opera The Nose, his first opera, a satirical work completed in 1928 based on Nikolai Gogol's 1836 story of the same name; play The Wedding, an 1889 Russian one-act play by Anton Chekhov; artist Stepan Slobodjanjuk-Podoljan; the art of Dagestan. 25 pages. Poor condition, pages and spine are loose, stain, browning.
