Soviet magazine "Art to the Masses", issue number 3(11), March 1930. The magazine was dedicated to presenting artworks to the Russian people, supported by the Association of Revolutionary Artists. A Constructivist design on the front cover featuring the stylised silhouettes of workers. Self-portrait of G Courbet on the front cover. Gustave Courbet was a French painter who led the Realism movement in 19th-century French painting. Committed to painting only what he could see, he rejected academic convention and the Romanticism of the previous generation of visual artists. His independence set an example that was important to later artists, such as the Impressionists and the Cubists. This edition includes articles "In the Life of Gustave Courbet", "Woman and Artistic Production" and "Artist or the Agricultural Collective!". List of this issue's artwork includes two paintings entitled "Peasant Woman" and "Bricklayers" by G Kurb; "Partizan" by O Somova’; "Wood Shovel" by T Smotrova; a painting entitled "Baky. Bibi-Ei-Bat. Petroleum Towers" by S V Ryangin. Fair condition, pencil markings on the front cover. Frayed spine, stains on front and back covers. 32 pages.
