Photomontage Spartakiada Athletics Jumping

Original photomontage collage study for a Spartakiada sports competition in the style of Gustav Klutsis. This unsigned handmade collage features black and white cut-outs from the Soviet 1920s period publications and is themed on athletics high and long jump competitions. Gustav Klutsis produced a series of postcards for Spartakiada sports games in Moscow and these sheets could be a study for postcard design, book illustration or a poster. We acquired the whole set from a private seller in Latvia who purchased them in Germany from a private collection along with some other paintings and sketches from the 1920s-1930s. Based on our expertise, we believe it to be a genuine period original artwork. Good condition, browning on edges, paper loss and tears on top left margin, folds on bottom corner. Uneven edge on top, small holes on top margin. Edges of the paper show signs of gilding.
