Original photomontage collage study for a Spartakiada sports competition in the style of Gustav Klutsis. This unsigned handmade collage features black and white cut-outs from the Soviet 1920s period publications and is themed on cycling and motorcycle racing. Gustav Klutsis produced a series of postcards for Spartakiada sports games in Moscow and these sheets could be a study for postcard design, book illustration, or a poster. We acquired the whole set from a private seller in Latvia who purchased them in Germany from a private collection along with some other paintings and sketches from the 1920s-1930s. Based on our expertise, we believe it to be a genuine period original artwork. Good condition, browning on right margin, light red crayon or colour pencil markings on the large motorcycle photo in the bottom left corner. Uneven edge on top with strip of thin paper attached on reverse, small holes and folds on edges. Edges of the paper show signs of gilding.
Our Standard rate per order is £15 to UK (excludes the Channel Islands).
