Original photomontage collage study for a Spartakiada sports competition in the style of Gustav Klutsis. This unsigned handmade collage features black and white cut-outs from Soviet 1920s period publications and is themed on tennis. Gustav Klutsis produced a series of postcards for Spartakiada sports games in Moscow and these sheets could be a study for postcard design, book illustration, or a poster. We acquired the whole set from a private seller in Latvia who purchased them in Germany from a private collection along with some other paintings and sketches from the 1920s-1930s. Based on our expertise, we believe it to be a genuine period original artwork. Fair condition, light paper browning, stains, bumps and small tears on margins, left margin uneven with paper loss and tears. Tennis player on the top left has a crayon or colour pencil crude colouring on the hat. Dimensions are given for the widest part of the item.
