Issue #14 (132) of Prozhektor, a Soviet illustrated literary and satirical magazine, dated 1 April 1928. Prozhektor was published as a supplement to Pravda newspaper from 1923 to 1935. This is a great issue which features work by some of the USSR's most renowned cartoonists and photographers. A page celebrating ten years of Soviet photography shows photos by N Petrov and A Shaihet, and the issue includes cartoons by Yuliy Ganf, N Denisovsky, Boris Efimov and Griffel. The cover features The Eclipse of the Sun (1926) by George Grosz (1893-1959); inside, his autobiography is accompanied by reproductions of his paintings and cartoons. A Berlin-born draughtsman and painter, Grosz was a key player in the Dada movement and contributed to developing photomontage techniques with John Heartfield. In 1922 he travelled to Russia, meeting with several Bolshevik leaders including Vladimir Lenin. Fair condition, staining, minor paper loss on spine of cover.
