Original vintage Soviet constructivist magazine Science and Technology Nauka i Tehnika #23 December 1935. Nauka i Tehnika was a monthly magazine on scientific and technical breakthroughs in the USSR. The cover features a drawing portrait of Alexey Stakhanov, a Soviet and Russian miner, Hero of Socialist Labour, and a member of the CPSU. He became known because of the Stakhanovite movement – a campaign intended to increase worker productivity and demonstrate the superiority of the socialist economic system. In September 1935, Stakhanov was reported to have set a new record by mining 227 tonnes of coal in a single shift. His example was held up in newspapers and posters as a model for others to follow, and he appeared on the cover of Time magazine in the United States. The issue includes articles about a continuous method for the production of superphosphate; rational metal milling; new technical inventions, such as a new method of chemical galvanization, the production of selenium from plants; the pilot Kokkinaki pilot's world altitude record in aviation, Vladimir Kokkinaki was a test pilot in the Soviet Union, notable for setting twenty-two world records and serving as president of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale; the Soviet high-latitude expedition of the Sadko ship, a Russian and Soviet icebreaker ship of 3,800 tonnes displacement. In 1935, she took part in an expedition led by Georgy Ushakov engaging in deep-sea research and an attempt to reach Kvitøya in the Arctic Ocean.
