Soviet Folk Art is a collection of prose, verse and illustrations all concerned with ‘Art’ in Russia and the Soviet Union. The volume serves to present the folk art and traditions of the Russian people which were disregarded under tsarist rule. The volume begins with songs and poems of the folk tradition, including ‘Song of the Fatherland’ by V Lebedev-Kumach, ‘Kazakh Song’ from the Kazakh and ‘White Gold’ from the Uzbek. It then moves to the prose section which includes articles on ‘National Festivals’ by E Kreiger, ‘Music and the People’ by V Messman, and ‘The Theatre in the Soviet Union’ by J Altman. List of artwork inside: enameled plate design by P Vlasenko; rug with portrait of Stalin by Karanfilyan; a photograph of a scene from the play ‘The Man with the Gun’; a painting by A V Klem ‘Stalin Greets Champion Worker from a Volga German Collective Farm’. Good condition, creases and small tears along spine. Otherwise excellent. 63 pages.
