Original antique book The Song of the Wise Oleg in pre-reform Russian orthography, published on the centenary of the birth of Pushkin, March 26, 1899. Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist of the Romantic era. He is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature. The Song of the Wise Oleg is a historical ballad, written by Pushkin in 1822, the plot is based on the chronicle story about Prince Oleg the Prophet, a prince from the 9th-10th centuries. The book is illustrated by Viktor Vasnetsov (1848-1926), a Russian artist who specialized in mythological and historical subjects. He is considered the co-founder of Russian folklorist and romantic nationalistic painting. Published by order of the Highest Commission approved at the Imperial Academy of Sciences for honouring A.S. Pushkin, 10 pages. Poor condition, the pages, and cover are loose, tears and paper losses on the spine and pages, foxing, stain, creasing.
