Issue #1 of USSR in Construction, dated January 1937. USSR in Construction was a publication dedicated to construction projects and industry in the USSR, published in Russian, French, English and German 1930 to 1941 as a collaboration between some of the most esteemed Soviet artists of the time. This issue is titled 'What is the Red Fleet?' and features great constructivist design, photography and photomontage. Includes an insert with a flag showing the hammer and sickle and red star, behind which is a map of the USSR, and photos depicting scenes from the navy, battleships, soldiers and sailors. Composition and montages by El Lissitzy, photogaphy by Georgi Petrysov, Polyakov, N Petrov and more. Poor condition, staining, foxing, tears, damage to the spine. Writing in pen on inner pages.
