English language version of USSR in Construction #12, published 1949. USSR in Construction was a monthly constructivist publication dedicated to construction projects and industry in the USSR, published in Russian, French, English, and German 1930 to 1941 as a collaboration between some of the most esteemed Soviet artists of the time. The issue celebrates Stalin's 70th birthday, and his illustrates his life with a wide range of coloured and black and white photos and paintings. Presented chronologically, the issue begins with photos of Stalin's childhood home and the city of Gori, in Georgia, where he was raised, and moves on to discuss Stalin's role as leader of the Transcaucasian Bolsheviks, his relationship with Lenin, and the October Revolution. The issue also praises his political achievements, discussing WWII, his Five-Year Plan to rebuild the economy after the war, and his interest in science. An interesting double page spread, printed in colour, displays photos of gifts presented to Stalin. Very good condition, creasing, staining on dust jacket and cover.
