The publication was organised in 1930 at the initiative and under the editorship of Maxim Gorky, Russian and Soviet writer, playwright, founder of the literature of socialist realism, initiator of the creation of the Union of Writers of the USSR and the first chairman of the board of this union. One of the most significant and famous Russian writers and thinkers in the world. Co-editor of this newspaper was M. Koltsov, Soviet writer, publicist, journalist, head of the Foreign Department of the USSR Writers Union. Cover design is by I. Fejnberg and S. Telingater, Soviet graphic artist, illustrator, printer, typographer, and book designer. Contains many illustrations and caricatures. Published by Zhurnalno-gazetnoe obiedenenie, 50 ooo copies.
