Stenberg Brothers: Constructing a Revolution in Soviet Design

£80.00

Original vintage reference Stenberg Brothers: Constructing a Revolution in Soviet Design by Christopher Mount,a curator at MoMA from about 1989 to 1990 as Curator with an essay by Peter Kenez,a historian specializing in Russian and Eastern European history and politics. The publication was issued to the exhibition organised by the Department of Architecture and Design, with the cooperation of The Ruki Matsumoto Collection,Tokyo in 1997 and dedicated to Vladimir Stenberg (1899 – 1982) and Georgii Stenberg ( 1900 – 1933),Russian and Soviet avant-garde artists and designers, best known for designing film posters. The Stenberg brothers produced a large body of work in a multiplicity of mediums, initially achieving renown as Constructivist sculptors and later working as successful theatrical designers, architects, and draftsmen; in addition, they completed design commissions that ranged from railway cars to women's shoes. Their most significant accomplishment, however, was in the field of graphic design, specifically, the advertising posters they created for the newly burgeoning cinema in Soviet Russia. The film posters of the Stenberg Brothers, produced from 1923 until 1933,represent an uncommon synthesis of the philosophical, formal, and theoretical elements of what has become known as the Russian avant-garde. This exhibition comprises approximately 100 works, including 65 film and political posters. Published by MoMA,96 pages. Very good condition, minor creasing on the cover.

FAQs

More information about our posters and service.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
