Issue #316 of the weekly illustrated magazine 'Miroir du Monde' (Mirror of the World),dedicated to advertising - Publicité Déesse Actuelle sur qui le Commerce Repose- The Advertising Goddess Upon Whom Trade Depends. Published 21 March 1936. The striking cover by the so-called father of modern advertising, Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942),shows a blonde woman with a red face,with horns emerging from her hair,and Mercury,the Roman god of commerce,on a black background.

The magazine contains a variety of advertisements for shops,products and publications. Articles include 'Reflections on Advertising' by Julien Coudy,'The Great Parisien Press',illustrated with photos of printing presses,a great feature on advertising characters with cartoons by BIB,'Plagiarised Publicity' by Paul Nicolas,accompanied by images of posters by M. Henry Lemonnier,and 'The Masters of Posters',with images of posters by Cappiello,J. Carlu,Chéret,Paul Colin,Loupot,and Valério. Further articles focus on humorous advertising,propaganda,and advertising of the future. Illustrations by Jean Bernard,Ledoux,BIB,Alexandre Lippmann,Jean de Rosbo,H. P. Gassier.

Are your posters originals?

All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity. 

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
