Original antique edition of The Twelve, written by Alexander Blok, Russian lyrical poet, writer, publicist, playwright, translator, literary critic. Classic Russian literature of the 20th century, one of the largest representatives of Russian symbolism. The Twelve is one of the most notable works written by Block and one of the most recognised Russian poem. Written early in 1918, the poem was one of the first poetic responses to the October Revolution of 1917. Illustrated by Y. Annenkov, Russian artist mostly known for his book illustrations and portraits. He also worked for theatre and cinema. A member of Mir Iskusstva. Illustration of The Twelve got Annenkov recognition as a book illustrator and still is one of his most known work. Published by "Alkonost", Peterburg 1918. Poor condition, tears and loss of material on the margins, missing spine, pages are partially detached. Staining, creases, frayed pages. Back cover is missing, pencil handwriting on the last page. 62 pages.
