Peter the Great ruled Russia and later the Russian Empire from 1682 until his death. He carried out a policy of Westernization and expansion that transformed the Tsardom of Russia into the 3-billion acre Russian Empire,a major European power. Author Jacob Abbott was the celebrated author of the "Makers of History" series of historical biographies. His stated aim in writing biographies of historical figures was "to present a clear,distinct,and connected narrative of the lives of those great personages who have in various ages of the world made themselves celebrated as leaders among mankind,and,by the part,they have taken in the public affairs of great nations,have exerted the widest influence on the history of the human race." The book contains eleven engravings. Published by Harper&Brothers,New York,1860. Acceptable condition. Rubbings,soiling and discolouration of the cover,tears along the spine. Library stamp and pencil markings on the inside of the front cover. Pencil handwriting on the front page. Soiling and staining on pages throughout the book.

What is a lithograph?

Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.

With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.

Where do you deliver to?

We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
