Chout Shut Jester No 28 1898 Satirical Magazine
Chout / Шут issue No 28 1898, a pre-revolutionary satirical magazine published from 1879-1914 in St. Petersburg. One of the editors of the satirical publication was Roman Romanovich Golike (1848-1919). He founded a large publishing partnership Golike and Vilborg, and opened the first school of printing at the Russian Technical Society. The publication was distinguished by its magnificent, colourful design and bright caricatures. The cover features a drawing depicting a gentleman reaching to give a kiss to a lady standing at a stall, the caption below quotes Gogol's Viy - Khoma was fed wheat dumplings and chicken that same day. It's impossible to count them in words. The magazine published jokes, plays, stories, lyrical and humorous poems, rumours and news from the provinces, with advertising on the final page. Fair condition, staining, paper losses, loose pages, 15 pages.

What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
