Rare original periodical on poster design published in February 1899,issue VIII,volume II with an article dedicated to the Beggarstaff Brothers (the pseudonym adopted for the 1893-1899 period of an artistic partnership between William Nicholson,1872-1949,and his brother-in-law,James Pryde,1866-1941) by Charles Hiatt. The Poster,1898-1900,was a monthly magazine dedicated to poster art in Britain,the first periodical of its kind. Four full-page colour lithograph poster designs by J&W Beggastaff in the book with articles on Loie Fuller,German and American posters and others. Profusely illustrated with poster photos and designs. Cover by J Pryde,a British artist who is principally remembered as one of the Beggarstaffs for the poster designs and other graphic work which had a powerful and far-reaching influence on graphic design for many years. Magazine illustrated by various artists,such as F V Poole,J Swain,W True,W Nicholson,E Webling,D Gov,Leroll,J Cissarz,W Wennerberg,K Klunsen,W Walker,W Rogers,W Handforth,J Hassall,W Bradley. Good condition,minor loss on top and bottom of the spine,rust on the bottom staple,pencil handwriting on the front page. 94 pages.

Are your posters originals?
All antique and vintage posters listed on our website are guaranteed originals as detailed in their photographs and descriptions, and include a certificate of authenticity.
What is a lithograph?
Most of the posters found on our website are lithographs. This is a method of printing that involves drawing a reverse image of each colour onto a piece of stone. The poster sheet is then imprinted consecutively with a stone slab for each colour, creating a stunning and rich image.
With the exception of silk printing, I believe that other printing techniques do not deliver the same impact of colour as lithography.
Where do you deliver to?
We ship posters worldwide rolled in shock-resistant and hard wearing tubes. Unless specified otherwise, delivery is free within the UK and standard international delivery is £35 for orders placed via our website.
