The Poster

Rare original periodical on poster design published in February 1899,issue VIII,volume II with an article dedicated to the Beggarstaff Brothers (the pseudonym adopted for the 1893-1899 period of an artistic partnership between William Nicholson,1872-1949,and his brother-in-law,James Pryde,1866-1941) by Charles Hiatt. The Poster,1898-1900,was a monthly magazine dedicated to poster art in Britain,the first periodical of its kind. Four full-page colour lithograph poster designs by J&W Beggastaff in the book with articles on Loie Fuller,German and American posters and others. Profusely illustrated with poster photos and designs. Cover by J Pryde,a British artist who is principally remembered as one of the Beggarstaffs for the poster designs and other graphic work which had a powerful and far-reaching influence on graphic design for many years.
